Ethan, 2005

About Ethan
For my installation art class in the winter of 2005, I produced a site-specific sculpture to be temporarily placed in the school of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning's building. Inspired by a common scene in DAAP, it is a figure of a student (that ended up looking a lot like me) working on his laptop on a ledge 15 ft. in the air. Walking up the grand staircase in DAAP, there are usually a few students working on their computers and taking advantage of the wireless internet.

The sculpture was so well recieved, that the school purchased Ethan and made him a permanent fixture in DAAP. It was the first piece in the University of Cincinnati's Fine Arts Collection to be purchased from a current student.

Ethan is a simple wood frame, wrapped in chicken wire with some of my old clothes on. The face and kneecaps are plaster molds of myself, then painted with acrylic paint. The laptop is painted wood.
